LOS ANGELES -- LMU women's tennis was defeated by Cal State Northridge in a non-conference match on Tuesday, 5-2. The match saw the Lions (7-14) retire a singles match, in which it was ahead by a set, due to injury. Cal State Northridge (11-8) recovered to win all but one singles match after losing the doubles round.

The Lions began the match with a win on court three by Claudia Razzeto and Miya Jin, 8-6, over Maria Pistalu and Lorraine Cheung. The Matadors came back with a rally in #1 doubles resulting in a victory by Jennifer Sher and Sabrina Man-Son-Hing over Ashley Anderson and Tory Parravi, 8-4. It all came down to court two where Elisaveta Pironkova and Reka Rohonyi defeated Nigora Sirojiddinova and Anna Yang, 8-5.

LMU was dealt a tough blow in singles as #1 Tory Parravi, subbing for regular #1 April Bisharat, suffered a leg injury while she was up 6-4, 2-1 in her match with Jennifer Sher and had to retire. Cal State Northridge was able to take a lead in the match at #2 singles as Ngora Sirojiddinova defeated Claudia Razzeto 6-4, 6-1. Team captain Elisaveta Pironkova then fell to Anna Yang 7-5, 6-4 at court three placing all of the pressure on the last three courts.

The action was focused on the last three courts for an intense half hour. Reka Rohonyi was the first to gain a victory and kept the Lions in the match with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win against Maria Pistalu. Miya Jin fought hard in #4 singles, rallying at several points, but fell to Sabrina Man-Son-Hing, giving the match to the Matadors. In the final contest, Ashley Anderson fell to Lorraine Cheung 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The Lions wrap their home schedule this Friday, Apr. 20 against BYU at 1:30 p.m. The match will be the team's Centennial match, celebrating LMU's 100th anniversary, and will begin with a ceremony honoring LMU's seniors.
