STOCKTON, Calif. - LMU (6-6) finished play at the Hilton Stockton Invitational with a victory over San Jose State (4-7) on Saturday on the campus of the University of Pacific. The Lions defeated the Spartans in four sets, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.
Senior Jasmine Rankins had a match-best 17 kills on 48 attacks as the Lions hit .235. Fellow senior Emily Cheek contributed a career-best 16 kills on 30 attacks for a .333 percentage, while junior Olivia Bailey dished-out a season-best 52 assists to lead all players. Rankins, who posted a double-double by linking 14 digs with her 17 kills, also collected three of LMU's seven service aces. Betsi Metter led all players with a career-best 26 digs while also serving up a pair of aces.
Taylor Japhet paced the Spartan offense with 15 kills and a percentage of .325. Caitlin Andrade set the offense, passing-out 31 assists to accompany 13 digs for a double-double. San Jose State hit .194 over the course of the four sets.
The Lions begin West Coast Conference play on Thursday at Gonzaga at 6 p.m.
