LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount women's volleyball, led by second-year head coach Tom Black, will open its season on Saturday by welcoming alumnae to Gersten Pavilion for some friendly competition. The annual Alumnae Match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
Over a dozen alumnae from the program are expected to return to Gersten Pavilion for this year's clash. The alumnae will take on the 2011 Lions, giving the current squad its first taste of competition this season.
Alumnae scheduled to return include Mardell Wrensch (1992-95), Tracy Holman (1994-97), Sarah Noriega (1994-97), Lydia Day (1996-99), Allison Gustorf (1997-00), Kristen Gallup (1999-02), Laura Gustorf (1999-02), Kealani Kimball (2000-03), Jody Carlson (2001-04), Jacene Dimson (2001-04), Kelli Nerison (2001-04), Nicole Oehlman (2000-04), Dina DeBernardi (2001-05), Audrey Francis (2004-05), and Megan Nash (2006-10). Lindsey Breeden will serve as the coach for the team, and any former Lion women's volleyball player is welcome to attend and play in the match.
Admission into the match is free. The match will serve as a tune-up for the current Lions, who open the 2011 regular season on Friday, August 26, when they host the Four Points by Sheraton LA Westside Invitational featuring UCLA, Quinnipiac and Cal State Fullerton.
