Lions' All-Access: Ireland Highlights
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - In 2010-11, freshman Anthony Ireland was the only men's basketball player on the LMU squad to play all 32 games. He finished his first year of college basketball averaging 31 minutes a game and capped his season with 24 points in the conference tournament.
His performance in his first season has turned some heads, earning 2011 Mid-Major Freshman All-American by CollegeInsider.com. He was also named West Coast Conference All-Freshman and finishes the year all over the freshman record book at LMU.
Ireland finishes his debut season at LMU averaging 10. 6 points, 2.97 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. He also led the Lions with 39 three-pointers, shooting 34.5 percent.
His 340 points on the year ties Chris Haney (1984-85) for seventh all-time for points by a freshman. Ireland's 10.6 average also ranks sixth. His 24-point effort against Santa Clara in the WCC Championships is tied for 10th with five others for points in a game by a freshman. He finished that game hitting 10-for-19 from the field, hitting on 2-for-5 from three-point distance.
He also ranks second all-time for freshman with 95 assists, fourth with 2.97 assists per game, and 10th with 21 steals.
