The LMU Track team recorded yet another weekend of successful performances at the Cal/Nevada Championships hosted by Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA.

For the women, in the 1500m, Cynthia Chaidez turned in a strong finish of 4:47. This performance was once again close to her personal record from last season and earned her a 7th place finish overall. Freshmen Kelly Shogren and Laura Delgado finished 18th and 19th overall respectively in 5:00 and 5:04. Both Shogren and Delgado were less than three seconds off their personal bests from this season and will be looking to shave those seconds off in their next race. Finally senior Shea Franklin finished in 5:20 overall.

In the 5000m distance the Lions were led by junior Brieanna Delaney who turned in a fourth place finish and a five second personal record. In cold, windy conditions Delaney led a pack of Lions to top performances in the 5k race. Freshman Brittnie Munoz ran a huge personal best, improving by over twenty seconds to finish in 17:41. Sophomore Caroline Draper also recorded a personal best, finishing in 17:44 recording a tenth place finish. Finally sophomore Jessica Mumaugh also turned in a solid performance running 17:50 and placing 12thoverall.

For the men, the Lions were highlighted by an individual win by Mike Evans in section 1 of the 1500m. Evans ran a personal best by over eight seconds finishing in 4:00.84 to win the first heat. Greg Innes also turned in a personal best in the second heat finishing in 3:54 placing third overall in a competitive race. Oran Arms also had a sub-four performance finishing in 3:58 placing 10th in the second heat. The Lions had a big pack in the first heat also turn in good performances. Philip Benavides ran 4:06 for a solid race to place 6th overall. Senior Michael Herrera earned a personal best, in 4:16.05, while both RJ Larrieu and Matt Duncan turned in season bests in 4:22 and 4:28 respectively. Also for the Lions senior Scott Donahue ran 4:13 while freshman Dan Smith ran 4:17.

In the 5000m race, the Lions once again saw top performances from their underclassmen with freshmen Drew Dalton and Kevin Joerger leading the pack of Lions. Freshman Drew Dalton turned in another top finish breaking fifteen minutes for the 5k in 14:52 for a 5th place finish. Kevin Joerger also had a great 5k debut in 15:00 and an 8th place finish. Sophomore Tyre Johnson was close in step in 15:07 for a 9th place finish and sophomore Sterling Lockert just missed the top ten in 15:21 and a 12th place finish. Also for the Lions, Connor Pastoor finished in 16:02 and Henry Jordan in 16:12. Finally Michael Carlone turned in a personal best in the steeple chase in 10:25 placing 15th overall in a competitive heat.

Next up for the Lions will race again at UCLA for the RJ/JJK Invitational in Westwood, Calif. on April 7th and 8th.
