LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Every member of the LMU men's golf team was in action last week as four individuals participated in the Del Walker Invitational Mar. 7-8, while the Lions sent five to compete as a team at the loaded Brandon Dunes Championship, Mar. 11-12.
Held at the Brandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon, the Lions were not only competing against some of the best in the 16-team field, they were also taking on typical Pacific Nortwest weather and one of the top-rated courses in the country. The Lions would go on to finish 10th with a three-round total of 930, two strokes ahead of Mercer.
Top-50 programs Washington (ranked 27th), Oregon (37th), Florida (4th) and Oregon State (47th) finished one through four. Other West Coast Conference schools in the tournament included host Gonzaga, who finished 14th, and Saint Mary's, who finished tied for seventh.
Leading the way for the Lions was junior Jake Sarnoff in a tie for 35th in the 91-player tournament. He finished with a three round 229. Scores throughout the final day where high as just one player finished hitting par (72). Two others finished the day one over (73) with everyone else at least two strokes or higher for the round.
Tyler Torano finished in a tie for 48th, followed by sophomore Bryan Bergna in a tie for 62nd. Bergna had the best final round score of 77. John Lim was in a tie for 68th followed by Boris Statnchev in 84th place.
At the Del Walker hosted by Long Beach State, the Lions sent four to the tournament to play as idividuals.
Sophomore Eduardo Chavez finished in a tie for 48th with a 226. Nick Cahon saw his first action as a Lion and finished tied for 60th with a 232. Andrew Waldron and Parker Middleton finished 65th and 66th, respectively with rounds of 236 and 237.
The Lions busy March continues at The Folino Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton at Oak Creek Golf Course March 21-22. That same week the Lions will complete the month at the Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State at Barona Creek Golf Course, March 24-25.
