LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team fell 7-0 to Saint Mary's this afternoon on the road. The Lions were unable to get a win over the Gaels falling 7-0. LMU is now 0-2 in conference and 5-8 overall.
In doubles play, the Lions were led by a win from April Bisharat and Melissa Valenzuela. The duo is now 2-0 on the season after playing together for the first time against Georgetown earlier this week. Busharat/Valenuela defeated Claire Soper/Jenny Jullien 8-4. The Lions came close to earning a vicotry on court one where Ashley Anderson and Miya Jin took no.72 Isip/Gingras to a close 9-7. Rekay Rohonyi and Elisaveta fell 8-3 making their overall record together 8-5 on the season.
After the Gaels took an early lead, the Lions were unable to come back in singles. April Bisharat fell to no. 60 nationally ranked Poorta 6-2, 6-0 on court one while teammate Melissa Valenzuela was unable to hold off Isip 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Miya Jin moved and Reka Rohonyi both moved up a spot in the Lions line up but fell to the Gaels forces. Elisaveta Pironkova was unable to keep her winning streak with a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Soper. Finally Ashley Anderson took Fisher to three sets but dropped in a ten point tiebreaker 10-6.
Next up the Lions will stay up north to face San Francisco in their third conference match up this season this Sunday at 12:30pm. After a tough match today the Lions will be looking to bounce back from their loss with a win.
