NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - The LMU men's golf team enters into their second half of the season with day 1 of the 31st annual Anteater Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine. LMU sent 5 down to Newport Beach to the Big Canyon Country Club to compete against a tough field coming from all around the West including UC Irvine, Fullerton, Santa Clara, UCSB, CSUN, Cal Poly, UCR, Sac State, Arizona, Saint Mary's, as well as individual golfers from USC and UCLA.
The Lions finished out Day One in a tie for 9th place. Leading the way was freshman standout Tyler Torano who currently stands in the top ten in a tie for 9th place after shooting a stellar 69 in round one and falling back shooting 76 in the following round. Behind Torano in a tie for 22nd place in junior Jake Sarnoff who shot +4 after putting up a score of 72 in the first round and 74 in the second. Freshman Parker Middleton followed closely in 32nd place with scores of 73 and 77. Senior John Lim stands tied for 51st and Sophomore Boris Stantchev rounds out the five in 62nd place.
LMU currently sits in 9th place overall heading into Day Two with a combine score of 599. The Lions as a team shot a 292 in the first round and a 307 in the second. Leading the Invitational is the University of Arizona with a score of 577, with host UC Irvine 8 strokes behind them in second.
The Lions look to climb up the standings tomorrow Feb. 8th with a tee off at 8:30am.
