SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sophomore Miya Jin highlighted play for LMU last weekend at the Second Annual Gaucho Classic being held on the campus of UC Santa Barbara. The native of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. reached the final round of the A-Singles bracket, falling to Veronica Popovici of the University of Washington, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Jin and Tory Parravi both competed in the A-Singles bracket, as Jin recorded victories over UCSB's Paola Cos and April Scatliffe in the first two rounds. Swimming in a sea of Gauchos, Jin squared-off with UCSB's Natalia Lozano in the third round, defeating her opponent by scores of 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to advance the final round. While Parravi did not advance past the first round of the main draw, she did shine in the consolation bracket. The freshman from San Diego, Calif. defeated a pair of opponents in the consolation before falling to UCSB's Cos in the third round.

Placed in the B-Singles bracket, Elisaveta Pironkova and Reka Rohonyi both dropped first-round matches to opponents from the University of Washington. Just as Parravi did in the consolation of the A-Singles, Pironkova found her groove after a first-round loss placed her in the consolation of the B-Singles. The senior knocked-off Cal State Northridge's Marjani Simmons before beating Ghizelene Doballah to meet Jocelyn Davis of Cal Poly in the third round. There, Pironkova dropped the match by scores of 6-2, 6-2.

On the doubles side, Pironkova and Rohonyi fell to UCSB's team of Scatliffe/Meehan in the A-Doubles bracket before falling into the consolation bracket and dropping a second decision to a Gaucho team. LMU's team of Jin/Parravi also dropped a first-round match in the main draw of the B-Doubles bracket before defeating a team of Gauchos in the first round of the consolation bracket. After advancing to meet Cal State Northridge's Yang/Sirojiddinova, the Lions dropped the decision 8-2.

The Lions will return to action on October 20 when they participate in the ITA Regional Tournament in San Diego, Calif.
