Results

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Even with valiant efforts in singles play to come back after dropping the doubles point, the Lions were unable to hold off the Nevada-Reno wolf pack today in the first match of the spring season. The women saw singles victories from freshmen Miya Jin, Reka Reka Rohonyi and April Bisharat to give the Lions a total of three points on the day and a solid start to the season.

In doubles play the Lions were led by Elisaveta Pironkova and Reka Rohonyi on court three as they defeated Stevens/Eufrasio 8-4. Even with this win from their strong combination of at the net play, the Lions fell on courts one and two to Nevada Reno.

After a difficult start to the day in doubles, the Lions were able to come back and play some strong singles matches earning three points, just shy of knocking Nevada Reno out of the win. On court five, freshmen Miya Jin earned the Lion's first point on the day defeating Eufrasio of Nevada Reno in a consistent 6-3, 6-3. Freshman teammate Reka Rohonyi gave the Lions their second point of the afternoon from court six where she knocked off Stevens of Nevada Reno 6-1, 7-6. Finally in a drawn-out three set tiebreaker, newcomer April Bisharat won her match 3-6, 7-6, 10-4. Bisharat gutted out the win for the Lions after dropping the first set and then going late into the evening as the last contest to be finished on the day.

Overall the Lions showed strong play today earning some good singles wins and dropping a few close ones. Up next the Lions will play at top ranked UCLA on January 26th, 2011.
