Los Angeles, Calif. - BRIEFLY The Lions will go on the road to face conference opponent Pepperdine University Thursday April 1st in Malibu, CA. The Lions are currently 7-9 on the season with seven wins in the last ten matches.
LIONS TO WATCH Junior, Ivan Lopez has been leading the Lions this season at the number one position. He has earned a 10-6 winning record in singles with a high of five straight singles victories earlier this month. Lopez and transfer Otto Sauer have also established a strong game as a doubles combination. They have proved a formidable opponent going 10-6 overall this season including wins over USD, Azusa Pacific, Gonzaga and Marquette. Lopez and Sauer also had a high of five straight singles wins this month before BYU halted their winning streak. In singles play, junior Johan Berhof has also earned some big singles wins for the Lions, with a 6-7 overall record and big victory against Marquette University. Sophomore Geza Bazula has also been on the rise for the Lions in singles play, Bazula is 6-4 on the season, winning six of his last eight singles contests. The Lions will also be looking to Renzo Maggi, Borja Malet and Jack Zapala for strong play in both doubles and singles.
PEPPERDINE WAVES: The Pepperdine Waves are 6-9 so far this season with wins over Duke, Rice and Michigan. They have lost their last four matches and will be looking to come back with a conference win against the Lions. The Waves are ranked no. 30th nationally as of March 23rd. Senior Bassam Beidas is ranked 40th overall in singles while teammates Alex Llompart and Finn Tearney are no. 80 in doubles overall.
