LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Today the Men's Tennis team earned another win on the weekend defeating Marist University 6-1. This weekend the Lions went 2-3 with wins over Gonzaga and Marist and have now won five out of their past seven matches. Top Lion, Ivan Lopez won all of his singles matches and extended his winning streak to four straight singles wins. In addition Borja Malet and Otto Sauer had back-to-back singles wins.
In doubles play, the Lions won two of three doubles contests. Ivan Lopez and Otto Sauer added another win to their record defeating Greene/Hobbs of Marist 9-7. The duo is now 7-5 overall in doubles this season with back-to-back wins over the weekend. On court three, senior Borja Malet and Geza Baluza teamed up to defeat Pisecky/Vaneck 8-5. In other doubles play, on court two, Renzo Maggi and Jack Zapala were defeated by Coley/Himmelsbach 8-1.
In singles play the Lions won all but one of their matches. At the number one position, the Lions were led by Ivan Lopez, who defeated Coley of Marist 6-3, 6-0. This win gives Lopez his fourth straight singles win and a 7-5 overall record on the season. Both Otto Sauer and Borja Malet earned back-to-back singles victories over the weekend. After dropping the first set, Sauer came back two win the next two sets defeating Marist's Sessagessami 6-7, 6-4, 12-10. Senior Borja Malet topped Pisecky of Marist 6-1, 6-3. Geza Bazula moved up to play at the number four position for the Lions and defeated Greene 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 while teammate Renzo Maggi defeated Himmelsbach 6-1, 6-3. In other singles play Marist's Vonnordheim defeated Johan Berhof 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.
After a slow start the Lions have won five of their last seven matches and are now 5-7 overall this season. Next up the Lions will play Montana State at 1:30pm at the LMU Tennis Center.
