LMU Face Chivas USA Thursday in Spring Contest

Feb. 3, 2010

LOS ANGLES - Contests against Chivas USA and UCLA and a March trip to Las Vegas highlight the LMU men's soccer off-season spring 2010 schedule, Head Coach Paul Krumpe announced. The Lions square off against Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center in Carson on Thursday, February 4 and will play their only home contest on Sunday, March 7 against UCLA.

LMU and Chivas USA will match up at the Home Depot Center on Thursday, February 4 at 11 a.m. The game will be played on one of the facility's outer fields and will be free for fans. It will be a homecoming of sorts for six LMU players - Vincent Ocampo, Tyler Krumpe, Artur Jozkowicz, Fernando Barba, and Jack McCormack - who played for Chivas USA this past summer in the United Soccer League's Super-20 League, taking the team to the championship game. Chivas USA will field a squad that mixes its professional first-teamers with its reserves and recent draft picks.

The Lions will play another doubleheader on Sunday, February 28 in Fullerton. LMU and Cal State Fullerton will play at 2 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by LMU against Cerritos College.

The only home contest is scheduled for Sunday, March 7 at 3:15 p.m. when UCLA visits Sullivan Field. The day will start at 9 a.m. with LMU's semi-annual Train Like a Lion Clinic, in which local youth players are invited to spend a day receiving instruction from LMU players and coaches. Clinic registrants will then have the opportunity to stick around to watch the Lions and Bruins face off. To register for Train Like a Lion, please visit the men's soccer page at www.LMULions.com.

On Saturday, March 20, the Lions head to Vegas for the final of three spring doubleheaders. LMU will play UNLV and Grand Canyon College in back-to-back contests. The spring schedule concludes the following Saturday, March 27, with the annual alumni game. Festivities for that day begin at 9 a.m.

In addition to the scheduled contests, LMU will be spending the spring performing various community initiatives. The Lions plan to volunteer at a local food back, visit Westchester area elementary schools, and take a trip to the Holocaust Museum.
