LOS ANGELES — LMU and Saint Mary's played to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field, as
Elie Bokota scored a stunning goal and
Anthony Boyadjian also found the back of the net for the hosts.
Saint Mary's struck first when TJ Knight scored in the 23rd minute, giving the Gaels an early lead.
LMU equalized just six minutes later through midfielder Bokota in the 29th minute with a stunning volley. After
Lewis Clutton crossed into the box and
Diego Lopez-Rosales redirected the ball, Bokota unleashed a left-footed strike that found the back of the net to level the match.
The Lions took the lead in the 39th minute when forward Boyadjian finished from close range. Following a dizzying run by
Nacho Macias, who evaded a pair of sliding Saint Mary's defenders, Boyadjian received a perfectly weighted through ball and struck a low shot that deflected past the goalkeeper, who was left moving in the wrong direction.
LMU's 2-1 advantage held briefly, but Saint Mary's answered in the 42nd minute when Sam Danner equalized off an assist from goalkeeper Sam Bentley, pulling the Gaels level heading into halftime.
The second half saw fewer opportunities for both teams, with neither side breaking through despite a series of chances. The match remained deadlocked through the final whistle.
