LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 2009 West Coast Conference golf champion, LMU's Greg Moss, and teammate Blake Nicolai will begin play at the 109th U.S. Amateur with stroke play on Monday, Aug. 24 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. The pair of Lions qualified in July to play in the oldest and most prestigious amateur golf event in the nation.
Moss, who graduated this past May and was WCC individual champion, will play on the Southern Hills course, starting on hole No. 1 at 2:25 p.m. Nicolai, who walked on to the Lions program and now enters his senior season in 2009-10, will get things started early, playing at Cedar Ridge Golf Course. He will tee-off on hole No. 1 at 8:00 a.m.
Moss and Nicolai are a pair of the 312 players in this year's field. All 312 will play at least two rounds of stroke play on, playing round one on Monday and round two on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The top 64 will then advance to match play, starting with the round of 64 on Wednesday.
The tournament will continue with match play rounds No. 2 and No. 3 on Thursday, Aug. 27. The final eight will play in the quarterfinals on Friday, Aug. 28, with the semifinals on Aug. 29 and then a 32-hole final on Sunday, Aug. 30.
