Lions Take Fourth in Final Tune-up

Stevinson, CA -- Playing in their final tournament prior to the 2009 West Coast Conference Championships, the LMU men's golf team posted a final round 296 to finish the 2009 University of Colorado-Stevinson Ranch Invitational in fourth place with a three-round total of 880. The Lions finished with three golfers in the top-20 as they head to the WCC Championship in one week.

The Lions led the field of 15 in birdies with 47, helping them to a nine-stroke edge over Cal State Stanislaus and San Francisco, who tied for fifth. LMU was one stroke behind third place Washington State and two behind second place Colorado. Nevada used a final round 289 to win the tournament with a three-round total of 869.

Pacing the Lions for the sixth time this season was senior Greg Moss. He posted a final round 76 to finish in a tie for eighth with a 218. Moss was a big reason for the Lions leading the field in birdies, posting 11 in the three rounds.

Senior Brian Locke and freshman Jake Sarnoff each finished in a tie for 18th with a three-round 221. Sarnoff jumped into the top-20 thanks to his one-under par 71 in the final round. Locke shot a 74 on Tuesday.

Sophomore John Lim finished in the top third with a 223, hitting a 75 on Tuesday. He finished tied for 26th in the field of 84 golfers. Junior Blake Nicolai finished with a final round 81 and a tournament total of 223. Senior Louie Bergna played as an individual and posted a tournament total of 240.

The Lions will head to the WCC Championships at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo on Sunday, April 12 for a practice round before the first day of action begins on April 13. Two rounds will be played on Monday with the final round will be played on Tuesday, April 14.
