Locke Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Public Links

July 10, 2008

Los Angeles, CA - Loyola Marymount men's golfer Brian Locke posted a two-round 140 to finish tied for first at the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links Sectional Qualifier at Sycuan Resort Glen Oaks in El Cajon, CA. With the top-four finish, Locke qualifies for the upcoming U.S. Amateur Public Links on July 14-19.

Locke, who earned his third straight first-team All-Conference nod in 2008, will travel to the Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. The tournament begins on July 14 with tee times yet to be determined.

Since its inception in 1922, the U.S. Amateur Public Links has given exposure to many public-course players who otherwise might not have an opportunity to compete in a national championship. The competition is open to any bona fide public-course player whose USGA Handicap Index does not exceed 4.4. The APL is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.

For more information on the tournament, visit the USGA Public Links web page.
