Lion Wins Los Angeles City Amateur

June 10, 2008

Los Angeles, CA - Sophomore-to-be John Lim of the Loyola Marymount University men's golf team posted a 6-under-par 66 at Rancho Park Golf Course to come from off the pace and win the 91st Los Angeles City Amateur Golf Championship by four shots over two-time defending champion Tim Hogarth of Northridge and Brian Woolf of Granada Hills on Sunday, June 8.

Lim posted rounds of 73-71-70-66 for a final score 280, 18-under par over the venerable course. Hogarth, who had the lead after two rounds, posted his second consecutive even-par round of 72 and finished at 284; Woolf shot 2-under-par 70 to tie Hogarth for runner-up honors.

Another shot back were recently crowned CIF-SCGA Southern Regional High School champion Johnny Mac Arthur of Newhall, who shot 69, and Min-Wook Woo of Los Angeles who had the day's best round with a 7-under-par 65. Third-round leader Edc Susolik of Newport Beach ballooned to an 80 and finished tied for 11th.

Hogarth, who was bidding for a seventh L.A. City title as well as three in a row, said afterwards, "I just didn't have it today; didn't have it all week, really. You've got to hand it to him [Lim] -- he kicked our butts today."

Lim finished his rookie season of collegiate golf with three top-20 finishes and a stroke average of 75.0. He finished fourth on the team and played in 24 rounds. He finished tied for 29th at the 2008 West Coast Conference Championships.

Lim's teammate Greg Moss also played in the championships, joining Lim in the top-10 with a 288. Moss tied for eighth with rounds of 71-72-73-72. Moss finished his first season at LMU with a stroke average of 75.9 and played in all 33 rounds on the season.
