Stevinson, CA - Junior Brian Locke, after shooting a 76 in the opening round, shot a second round 68 to help the Loyola Marymount men's golf team sit in a tie for fifth place at the Colorado-Stevinson Ranch Invitational at the Stevinson Ranch Golf Course on Monday.

The Lions carded a two-round 594 to sit tied with Missouri-Kansas City for fifth place in the 14-team, 72-individual tournament. Washington State is fourth with 593 while Colorado is third with a 589. New Mexico State is second with a 583 and West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary's leads the field with a 581.

Locke opened the tournament in the middle of the pack but jumped to a tie for fourth with his second round 68, one of the few under pars in the history of the tournament. In fact, entering the second round, Stevinson, which plays at par-72, has never been easy for this tournament, presenting of the toughest yet fairest challenges annually in college golf. Of the 710 players in the previous nine meets, only 39 bettered par with another 11 matching it through 54 holes.

Senior Jason D'Amore sits tied with Locke in the top five thanks to rounds of 73 and 71. Both players carded a two-round 144 and are three strokes behind leaders Michael McRae and Chadd Cocco of Saint Mary's who posted a two-round 141. Matt Edwards of New Mexico State is third with a 142.

Rounding out the Lions' scores on the first day was junior Greg Moss with a 153 (tied for 36th), junior Bryan Martin with a 154 (tied for 42nd) and freshman John Lim with a 157 (tied for 57th).

The final round plays on Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m.
