Lions Stymied by Dons

Box Score

San Francisco, CA - San Francisco's Leon Williams scored the game's only goal in the 50th minute, bringing an end to LMU's three-game unbeaten streak Sunday afternoon at Negoesco Stadium in San Francisco. The Lions (4-4-5, 2-2-1 WCC) played the final 25 minutes a man down and recorded their second-lowest shot total of the season against the Dons (4-7-1, 3-2-0 WCC).

LMU entered the game averaging over 20 shots per game in its last six outings but were held to just six shot attempts Sunday, one more than their season-low of five at UIC on September 21. That was also the last time the Lions had been shut out, as they were held without a goal for the third time this season.

USF got all the offense it would need four mintues after halftime. From the right flank, Bryan Burke supplied the pass to Williams, who lined up his shot from 17 yards, beating LMU junior goalkeeper Patrick Sampson into the upper corner.

Things got worse for the Lions in the 65th minute when sophomore Vincent Ocampo was shown his second yellow card of the match, leaving LMU a man down for the remainder. Despite playing shorthanded, the Lion offense still managed to push forward but was unable to pull the goal back. Sampson finished the match with two saves.

LMU returns home on Thursday to close out the first half of conference play against San Diego at 3 p.m. The two teams then travel to San Diego on Sunday for the second half opener at 2 p.m.
