San Jose, CA (Oct. 24) - Loyola Marymount University men's golf freshman Brian Locke shot rounds of 64 and 68 to lead the 69-man field at the 2005 Santa Clara Invitational with a two round 132. Locke led an impressive first two rounds for the Lions as they posted a score of 577, just two strokes behind host and 45th-ranked Santa Clara on Monday.
Locke tied fellow teammate Jason D'Amore for the lowest round in program history with his opening round of 64. D'Amore set the record as a freshman a year ago at the Vandal Fall Classic. Locke, in his first season from Los Angeles, Calif., has a five-stroke lead on the field.
The Lions were tied for first after a first round of 287 had then even with Boise State. Santa Clara then took the lead after two rounds with a score of 282 at the Silver Valley Creek Country Club in San Jose. LMU sits in second place in the 13-team field and holds a single stroke lead on Saint Mary's and Boise State, who finished the first two rounds with a 578. The teams will play the final rounds on Tuesday.
Following Locke for the Lions was D'Amore with a pair of 73s on Monday. He is in a tie for 13th at a two-over par 146. Josh Escobedo is in a tie for 21st after rounds of 75 and 74 has him at 149. Senior Chaz Inouye finished the day at 150 and Brendan von Doehren finished at 156.
Inouye shot a pair of 75s on the day to sit in a tie for 54th while von Doehren had a pair of 78s.
