Kuna, ID (Oct. 11) - Thanks to consistent play in the final two rounds, the Loyola Marymount University men's golf team made up nine spots in the final standings at the 2005 Boise State Bronco Invitational to place fourth out of 14 teams at the Crane Creek Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

As a team, LMU finished with a final round of 294 and a three-round total of 890. The Lions, who sat in 13th out of 14 teams following the first round on Monday, quickly rebounded with consistent play. Of the scores counting for the team total, the highest score taken in the final two rounds was a 75. The Lions finished 10 strokes out of third and Santa Clara won the event at 870.

For the second year in a row, an LMU freshman turned heads during a fall tournament played in Idaho. Last year it was Jason D'Amore in just his second tournament at the Vandal Fall Classic. This year it was freshman Brian Locke, shooting an even-par 213 to finish in a tie for second.

The first-year player from St. Bernard's High School finished with a final round 73 to go with his 70s in both the first and second round. Last season, D'Amore turned heads at the tournament hosted by Idaho in which he took first place with a 10-under 203. Locke was impressive on the par-4 holes, placing third out of 80 golfers by shooting a combined one-over par on those holes. As a team the Lions finished fourth on par-4 scoring out of the 14-team field.

He might have been even better on the par-5 holes, going six-under par for the tournament, tied for second best in the field. He averaged a score 4.33 on the par-5 holes. Locke also led the Lions with 11 birdies in the tournament.

Locke was not the only player to post a 73 in the final round as senior Chaz Inouye and the sophomore D'Amore also posted 73 as the Lions shot the third best score on the day to move three spots in the final standings to finish fourth. It was the best finish since the Vandal Fall Classic a year ago.

Inouye came in second for the Lions with a 224, posting 73s in the final two rounds to place 24th. Sophomore Josh Escobedo and junior Brendan von Doehren finished in a tie for 41st as they both posted scores of 230. D'Amore posted scores of 73 in the second and third rounds after having to take a DQ in the first round. His scores counted for the team total but he did not place individually.

D'Amore was tied for second in the field on the par-3 holes, going even par over his two rounds. Escobedo led the Lions in pars, scoring par 37 times in the tournament.

The Lions have next weekend off before heading to the Santa Clara Fall Invitational at the Silver Valley Creek Country Club in San Jose on Oct. 24-25.
