Golf to Host Carson Daly Invitational

April 1, 2004

Los Angeles, CA (April 1) - The Loyola Marymount University men's golf team will host the inaugural Carson Daly Invitational at Robinson Ranch in Santa Clarita, Calif., on April 5-6. The Invitational will feature a four-team Division I bracket and a three-team NAIA bracket.

The Lions will enter a team of five plus three individuals in their first tournament in three seasons. Joining LMU in the Division I tournament will be teams from Sacramento State, Cal State Northridge and IUPUI. Also entering individuals will be CSUN, UCLA and Pepperdine. In the NAIA tournament will be The Masters College with two teams, Point Loma with two teams and Notre Dame de Namur with one team.

The first and second rounds will be Monday, April 5, with round one teeing off at 7:30 a.m. The third and final round will be Tuesday, April 6 also starting at 7:30 a.m. The Invitational will be played on the Mountain Course at Robinson Ranch.

As one of California's premier golf destinations, Robinson Ranch's Mountain and Valley golf courses, nestled at the base of the Angeles National Forest, offer breathtaking views of the Santa Clarita Valley. With consideration to the conservation and preservation of indigenous plant and animal life in the development and management of the property, Robinson Ranch has obtained certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary with Silver Signature Status.

The Mountain course opened in February of 2000 and was voted Best Greens in Los Angeles County. The course has also been the site of the 2002 SBC senior Tour Qualifying Event and the 2001 and 2002 Cure Autism Now-ER Celebrity Golf Tournament. The course is 6,508 yards and is a Par 71.

The Lions last hosted a tournament on Nov. 13-14 with the LMU/Farmer John Golf Classic. LMU won the tournament as senior Joe Legacy is the only current Lion to have played in the Classic. He finished in a tie for 13th.

This will be the fifth spring tournament for the Lions this season as it will serve as the final tune-up before the West Coast Conference Championships on April 12-13. Of the four tournaments played in this spring, the Lions have had four different players lead them on the course.

Freshman Brendan von Doehren led the Lions in the first match this season at the Santa Clara Spring Shootout. He finished the one-round tournament against Santa Clara and Saint Mary's with a 78 to finish in third place.

Sophomore Chaz Inouye, who leads the Lions this season with an average round of 75.67, led the Lions at the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside on March 8-9. He finished the three rounds in a tie for 12th with a 229.

In the third match of the season, sophomore Dean Delaye finished in a tie for 13th to lead the Lions. He had a three-round total of 226 at the Kauai Collegiate Cup two weeks ago.

Last week Legacy had his best showing of the season to lead the Lions at the Fidelity National Title Invitational. He finished with a three-round 227 to finish in a tie for 23rd.
