LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Armando Melendez was named the WCC's Player of the Month, the conference announced last week. The junior midfielder led LMU to a 7-2-1 record during October and a 7-1-1 mark in WCC play.
Melendez netted three goals and handed out four assists as the Lions were in first place for the entire month of October and finished the first half of conference play unbeaten. Melendez collected game-winning goals in victories over San Diego and then-No. 2 Santa Clara.
The midfielder assisted on game-winning goals against San Francisco and Portland. Melendez set-up Sean Rhynard in LMU's key 2-1 victory over USF on October 8th and then found LJ Reinhardt for a 1-0 win against Portland on October 31st. For the month of October, Melendez led the WCC in points during conference matches and was tied for second in assists in conference games.
Melendez leads the team in scoring with 18 points (5 goals, 8 assists) overall, and has 11 points in conference play (3 goals, 5 assists).
The Lions look to win their first conference title as they play at Santa Clara on Friday night at 7:00pm. With a win, the Lions clinch the WCC crown.
