Madera, CA -- The Loyola Marymount Golf team finished the season tied for fourth at the West Coast Conference Championships on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions finished tied with the University of San Diego after finishing the tournament with a total score of 916 (+52). The team was led by Mike Farrell who shot a total score of 223 (+7) to finish in a tie for seventh place with two other golfers. By finishing seventh, Farrell was named as an All-Conference Honorable Mention. Farrell was the only Lion named to the All-Conference team and was the Lions' most consistent player throughout the season.
The final round of 18 holes was played on Tuesday with the first 36 being played on Monday afternoon. Pacing the Lions along with Farrell was Dusty Morton who shot a total of 230 (+14) for the tournament. Morton made a run for the top twenty on the final day. He moved from a tie for twenty-first to a tie for seventeenth in the final round. Farrell and Morton were the only two Lions to finish in the top 20. Joe Legacy shot a 231 (+15) to finish tied for twenty-first place which is the same place he was in at the end of the second round. After making up an incredible twelve strokes while shooting an 83 (+11) in the first round while improving with a 71 (-1) to end the second round, Legacy shot a 77 (+5) on the final day. Gavin Witzer shot a 238 (+22) for the tournament. Donald Rhee finished with a score of 239 (+23) to round out the remaining Lions.
Pepperdine University won the tournament after shooting a total of 860 (-4), earning their fourth straight WCC title. The Waves did this by placing four golfers in the top five and were led by WCC Golfer of the Year Michael Beard. Beard won the tournament by shooting an incredible score of 206 (-10) with teammate Jason Allred not far behind after shooting a 210 (-6).
