Lions' Winning Streak Reaches Five

Los Angeles, CA, -- The Loyola Marymount University's men's soccer team improved their winning streak to five games Friday afternoon with the 5-2 victory over the Cal State LA Golden Eagles. LMU's Andres Murriagui paced the win as he set a new school record for goals in a half and tied LMU's record for goals in a game with four.

The Golden Eagles came out with the first goal of the game scored by Jaime Beltran in the eighth minute of the game. The tally was assisted by Rafael Chavez for the early 1-0 lead..

Murriagui came back for the Lions in the 16th minute of the game to score his first goal on the afternoon, an unassisted open shot down the middle. Murriagui scored again at the 35:03 minute mark on the game, taking the ball from Claudio Basaez's corner kick. Not more than three minutes passed before Murriagui scored his third goal on the game, assisted by Julian Gaitan and Arturo Torres. His final goal came at 41:55 on the game clock, assisted by Derick Stickel and Torres. The Lions went into halftime leading 4-1.

On the game he set the school mark with four goals in the first half, held previously by Eric Hill who scored three against Occidental in 1990. He tied mark for goals in a game (4) and points in a game (8) held by Torres, who set it against Denver in 1999.

Gaitan was the last Lion to score on the afternoon with his shot in the 53rd minute, assisted by Jeff Kovar with his second assist on the season.

Beltran tried to get CSLA back into the game with his second goal on the game, an unassisted indirect free kick in the 62nd minute of the game.

At the 75:23-minute mark Golden Eagles' forward Nikos Gutrugianios was knocked unconscious during a play at midfield with Jay Paul Lowry, who received a yellow card. An altercation ensued between the two squads and Golden Eagle Head Coach Santo Rivas and Lions' head Coach Paul Krumpe agreed to end the game at the 75:23-minute mark.

INUURY UPDATE Gutrugianios suffered a concussion and was unconscious for approximately 30 seconds. Paramedics were called to the field due to slight neck pain. Gutrugianios was taken to the UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, CA, as a precaution.
