Stanford, CA -- Opening up at Stanford's NorCal Tournament on Saturday, the 11-th ranked Lions defeated the No. 8 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 8-5 in the first round and fell to the 2nd-ranked USC Trojans in the second.
In the first game the Lions and the Gauchos kept an even 3-3 game through the first three quarters. However, a five-goal fourth quarter surge pushed the Lions to the 8-5 victory over the Gauchos. Stephen Lipinski led the Lions' charge with his four goals against the Gauchos. Kevin Witt collected two goals while Kyle Witt and Tamas Szego each added a single tally in the Lions' upset of No. 8 UCSB.
Next, the Lions faced the 2nd-ranked USC Trojans for the first time this year. The Trojans were able to hold the Lions to only four goals in the match, whereas the Lions have been averaging 11 goals per game this season. LMU was led by Ke. Witt with tow more goals, and Kyle Witt and Szego each added a single tally for the Lions.
On Sunday the Lions will face Long Beach State in the 9:15 a.m. game at Stanford's Stadium Pool. In the afternoon game they will face either UC Irvine or California, depending on which teams wins the early morning matches.
