Los Angeles, Calif., Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 - The Loyola Marymount women's softball team opened the 2001 season with a sweep of Cal State Bakersfield, 2-0, 4-0, Tuesday afternoon at the LMU Softball Field.
The Lions (2-0 Overall) shutout the Roadrunners (0-2 Overall) 2-0 in game one. Sophomores Erin Hogan and Sarah Schaub each scored runs for the Lions while seniors Laura Eckley and Anna Trauernicht each picked up RBIs. LMU tallied six hits in the game and left 10 runners on base. Starting pitcher Corianne Rogalsky threw a two-hitter while striking out four in the Lions' season opener.
Game two was more of the same as LMU again shutout CS Bakerfield, 4-0 this time. Trauernicht led the Lions with two hits in three at-bats while driving in one RBI. Sophomore Jaime Lyons and freshman Trisha Gomes each went 1-for-3, scored one run and drove in one RBI. Freshman Sami Strinz picked up her first collegiate win. The starter pitched five innings, gave up just two hits and struckout three batters. Junior Jennifer Heliotes came on in relief. She threw two innings, walked one and struck out one.
The Lions return to action this Saturday, Feb. 3 when they travel to Santa Barbara, Calif. The Lions will battle the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at 1 p.m.
