LOS ANGELES — LMU men's tennis announced Tuesday that
Cesar Cruz and
Max Wuelfing have been named to the All-West Coast Conference Second Team in singles, while the doubles tandem of Wuelfing and
Alex Padro Parra earned All-WCC Second Team recognition as well.
Cruz turned in one of the top individual singles campaigns in the program, finishing 11-2 overall and 10-1 at the No. 2 position. The standout's dominant play was a cornerstone of LMU's 16-4 overall record and one of the team's most successful seasons in recent memory.
Wuelfing complemented Cruz with a 12-2 mark in singles, operating primarily out of the No. 1 spot. His consistency at the top of the order helped the Lions build an 11-2 home record at the LMU Tennis Center and rattle off 15 wins in their first 16 matches.
In doubles, Wuelfing and Padro Parra proved to be one of the conference's most durable pairs, compiling an 11-6 record together at the No. 1 doubles position. Padro Parra also excelled in singles, going 13-3 overall out of the No. 4 and No. 5 slots to give the Lions a potent presence throughout the lineup.
LMU finished the regular season 16-4, dropping just two matches at the LMU Tennis Center while closing the year against a tough WCC gauntlet that included ranked opponents San Diego, Santa Clara and Pepperdine.
The Lions will open up the West Coast Conference tournament against Portland at 9:00 a.m. (PT) on Thursday.Â
