PHOENIX — Jaxson Wall and Zach Wadas provided the offensive highlights Friday night as LMU fell 12-4 to Arizona State at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Wall, the Lions' hottest bat, went 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored, pushing his season average to an eye-catching .489. The shortstop has now recorded hits in bunches all year, collecting 22 hits in 45 at-bats while adding four stolen bases on the season.
Wadas provided the night's signature moment for LMU, sending a solo shot over the fence in the second inning, his fifth of the year, to give LMU an early lead. Alex Gamboa chipped in a 2-for-4 night, and Andrew Mhoon drove in a run while swiping his third bag of the season.
The Lions put together a 10-hit effort on the night and showed signs of life on the bases, with Wall and Mhoon each contributing steals.
Jonah Johnson gave LMU a serviceable start, working six gutsy innings and keeping the Lions within striking distance before the bullpen was unable to hold the fort in the seventh.
LMU falls to 5-11 on the year and will look to regroup in game two against the Sun Devils on Saturday.
