Dominant Lions Win 6th Consecutive Match with Shutout of Army

LOS ANGELES - LMU men's tennis closed out its home weekend with a 4-0 shutout of Army on Sunday, capping a dominant stretch that saw the Lions outscore their opponents 10-1 over three days. The win moves LMU to 10-1 on the season.

The Lions never trailed.

LMU clinched the doubles point with ease, winning the first two courts before play was stopped on the third. Cesar Cruz and Emil Kindhult opened things up on Court 2 with a 6-3 win over Jimin Jung and Alan Ton, and Alex Padro Parra and Max Wuelfing quickly followed on Court 1, dispatching Daniel Choi and Jack Hanna by the same score. Cyrus Ahmad and Darius Tamaddon held a 5-3 advantage on Court 3 when the point was secured. The doubles unit has now won 20 of its first 26 matches this season, going an elite 10-1 at the No. 1 position.

Wuelfing wasted no time setting the tone in singles, improving to a perfect 10-0 on the season with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Jung at No. 1. He rallied to win the final two games of the first set to avoid a tiebreaker before pulling away in the second.

The afternoon's brightest moment came at No. 6, where Tristan Messerli made his return to the lineup after an extended absence and delivered an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over Marcus Sebastian. Messerli won the final three games of his first set to take it 6-3 and never looked back, showing no signs of rust in his first appearance this season.

Emil Kindhult delivered the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Matias Feoli at No. 3, giving LMU the match and a second straight dominant performance to close the weekend.

"Proud of the way we played as a team this weekend and happy to come away with two wins. Now the focus is on next weeks and the opportunities ahead," said Kindhult after the match,

Three additional courts were left unfinished once the match was decided. At No. 2, Cesar Cruz led Jackson Armistead 7-5, 2-5, having closed out the first set with back-to-back games to avoid a tiebreaker, a theme shared by both Cruz and Wuelfing on the day. At No. 4, Padro trailed Ton 6-7, 3-0, and at No. 5, Kuba Hrynkiewicz led Jack Hanna 6-2, 4-5.

LMU, which entered the weekend ranked No. 48 nationally, now holds a 10-1 record with wins in seven of its last eight matches. The Lions have gone 9-1 at the No. 1 singles position this season, with Wuelfing accounting for eight wins from that spot.
