Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lions Start Fast, Lead Wire-to-Wire in Season Sweep of Dons

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The calendar turned to February and LMU men's basketball has put its January losing streak behind them. The Lions came out surging against San Francisco, hitting nine of its first 14 shots, and led wire-to-wire to defeat San Francisco, 84-75.

The Lions opened the game with the first eight points and jumped ahead 20-3 over the first nine minutes of action. Myron Amey Jr. ended the opening spurt with three consecutive threes and made four threes himself for a 12-3 run over a five-plus minute stretch.

Rodney Brown Jr. hit a three and Jalen Shelley followed with a layup at the 6:26 mark of the first to build the lead to 19 points, the largest of the game. Shelley scored LMU's final eight points of the half, but the Dons cut their deficit down to five at intermission despite LMU shooting 57.7 percent (15-for-26) in the first half.

Brown hit four threes in the game, including the first bucket of the second half, to match Amey for the game-high with makes from long range.

San Francisco capitalized from the free throw line doubling the Lions in attempts, 42-21. Ryan Beasley scored 21 of his game-high 30 points from the free throw line, which helped USF cut the game to two points, with 16 minutes to play. Shelley responded on his way to his career-high with a converted and-1 on LMU's next possession.

Josh Dalton hit a three to extend the lead to eight points with just under 13 minutes remaining.

Another run by the home team turned it into a one-possession game midway through the half before Brown converted an and-1 of his own to double the lead up back to six. After that point, the Dons never came within five points again.

Aaron McBride grabbed an offensive rebound and putback a layup with 2:07 to play and then was the beneficiary of a steal from AJ Thomas that turned into a fastbreak dunk to bring the lead back to double-digits. McBride finished with 10 points and rebounds.

Shelley hit nine field goals for 27 points, both career-highs. Brown scored 23 points for his first 20-plus point game since before New Year's.

The Lions made their final 11 free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the win.

Jan Vide recorded a career-high with eight rebounds before fouling out.

San Francisco's 16 made field goals are the fewest by an opponent against LMU this season.

The Lions return home for their first matchup of the season against San Diego. The game will tip at 6:00 PM on ESPN+. The LMU Athletic department will honor the 2026 Hall of Fame class which includes the historic 1987-88 conference championship NCAA Tournament team.
