Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Vide Scores 20 of 23 in the Second Half to Defeat San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego scored the game's first basket then never led again after LMU responded with the next nine points and carried that to a 77-65 win in the team's final road game of the regular season.

Rodney Brown Jr. pushed LMU ahead 3-2 with his first of four first-half threes. As part of that early 9-0 run, Aaron McBride drove the lane for a dunk and Myron Amey Jr. followed with back-to-back layups.

Brown sparked a second 9-0 run with another three to push the lead to 14 with 11:52 to play in the first half. Brown scored 19 points in the game and shot 5-for-7 from long range.

A 14-3 San Diego run pulled the home team within four down the stretch. Amey hit a basket as time expired to push the lead to 38-32. Amey finished with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting and a career-high six steals

A three by Brown and a jumper out of the gate from Jan Vide extended the lead to double digits less than three minutes into the second half.

Toneari Lane hit back-to-back threes for the Toreros to tie the game at 51-all with 10 minutes to play.

Vide scored the next nine points for LMU to build the lead back up to seven. 20 of Vide's game-high 23 points came in the second half. The captain went 8-for-9 from the free throw line, both career-highs in makes and attempts, and also blocked a career-best two shots.

Over that stretch of the next nine-plus minutes where LMU extended the lead to a dozen, with the two team captains of Vide and Amey scoring all 24 points over that stretch.

The Lions shot 57.8 percent (26-for-45) from the field in the game, the best percentage against a Division I opponent this season. The 47.1 percent (8-for-17) from three is the best percentage for LMU since conference play began.

The Lions close out the regular season with two home games over the final week of the regular season. LMU hosts Washington State for the first time as West Coast Conference opponents on Wednesday night in a nationally televised game on ESPNU. The ball will tip at 8:00 PM from Gersten Pavilion.
