Lawson Earns WCC Player of the Week Honors After Statement Wins

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU graduate guard Jess Lawson has been named the West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Lions to back-to-back home victories over Pepperdine and Gonzaga at Gersten Pavilion.

Lawson delivered two dominant, all-around performances that helped LMU improve to 11-3 in WCC play and remain in the thick of the conference race.

In the Lions' 72-62 win over Pepperdine, Lawson poured in 17 points while shooting an efficient 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. She added eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals, controlling the game on both ends of the floor and helping LMU generate 28 points off turnovers.

She followed that effort with another statement performance in LMU's 72-63 victory over Gonzaga. Lawson finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a team-high seven steals. She shot 6-of-14 from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 at the line. Her defensive intensity fueled LMU's transition offense, as the Lions tallied 19 fast-break points in the win.

Across the two victories, Lawson averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 5.0 steals per game, showcasing her ability to impact every facet of the game on both ends of the floor.

She totaled 33 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, and 10 steals over the weekend, showcasing her versatility, leadership, and ability to impact winning at the highest level of conference play.

Lawson's consistent two-way dominance continues to set the tone for the Lions as they head into the final stretch of WCC competition.
