Green Wave Take Finale Despite Mhoon's Continued Success

LOS ANGELES - LMU baseball could not hold an early lead as they fell to Tulane 6-2 on Sunday at Page Stadium.

Despite the loss, LMU freshman Andrew Mhoon continued his impressive collegiate debut, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs to cap a stellar opening series. The second baseman collected five hits and drove in four runs over the three-game set, announcing his arrival at the Division I level.

LMU (1-2) struck first in the fourth inning when Mhoon delivered an RBI single through the left side to score Alex Gamboa, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

Tulane took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a two‑run homer from Hayden Pinkney after a leadoff double by Tyler Chun. Later in the inning, Tye Wood added a two‑run shot to right following a single from Kaikea Harrison, extending the Green Wave advantage to 4-1.

Tulane added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to extend their lead to 6-1.

LMU mounted a small rally in the bottom of the ninth when Zion Williams doubled to right field and later scored on Mhoon's RBI single to left field, cutting the deficit to 6-2. But Tulane closer Jaden Abbadessa struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Williams finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Lions, while DJ Ghiorso added a double. However, LMU struggled offensively overall, managing just five hits while striking out 19 times against Tulane's pitching staff.

Tulane's pitchers combined to hold LMU to just two runs while striking 19 batters. The Green Wave finished with eight hits, led by three home runs in the victory.

Despite dropping the series finale, the Lions can take encouragement from Mhoon's emergence as a productive force in the middle of their lineup. The freshman's five hits over the weekend provided a bright spot for LMU heading into next week's action.
