LOS ANGELES - After winning the regular season in each of the last two years and coming off a tournament title in 2025, the Golden Coast Conference has picked LMU women's water polo to finish second in the 2026 season, according to the annual Preseason Coaches' Poll released Friday. The seven GCC head coaches gave Fresno State 35 points, four better than second place LMU. The two teams have faced off in the GCC title game three of the last four years. Fresno State earned five first place votes to LMU's two to claim the top spot in this year's preseason poll.
Rounding out the poll is Pacific (26 points) at third place, San Diego State (21) in fourth, California Baptist (17) in fifth, Azusa Pacific (9) in sixth, and Santa Clara (8) in seventh.
The 2026 season begins in one week (Friday, Jan. 16) and will culminate with the
2026 GCC Championship April 10-12 at Fresno State.

1. Fresno State - 35 points (5 first place votes)
2. Loyola Marymount - 31 points (2)
3. Pacific - 26 points
4. San Diego State - 21 points
5. California Baptist - 17 points
6. Azusa Pacific - 9 points
7. Santa Clara - 8 points
The 2026 water polo season begins on Saturday with a pair of home games at Burns Aquatics Center. The Lions hold both Concordia and Whittier on opening day, beginning with a 10:00 AM matchup with the Golden Eagles.
