Dalton’s Career-High Night Shadowed by LMU Turnovers, Rebound Disparity

LOS ANGELES – Josh Dalton was a bright spot in LMU's 104-73 loss to Santa Clara. The freshman recorded his career-high with 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting.

The Broncos led for the entire game after opening play up 12-2. LMU's best opportunity came on a 9-2 run late in the first half to cut a 14-point deficit in half.

With under three to play before halftime, Myron "MJ" Amey Jr. hit LMU's first three of the game after the team missed their first six from long range.

Dalton hit a layup with 1:58 on the first half clock to bring the Lions within five, 36-31. Santa Clara ended the half with the next eight points to lead 44-31 at intermission.

The run continued after halftime as Santa Clara turned their 13-point lead into a 23-point advantage. 18-0 extended run kept the Lions scoreless for 5:45 of game play until Amey hit his second three of the game. Amey led the Lions with 18 points and shared high rebounding numbers with Dalton after both corralled eight boards.

The second half featured four dunks, including a poster by Amey and three from Dalton.

AJ Thomas went 9-for-11 from the free throw line and finished with 10 points. The freshman drew 10 fouls in the game and also led the team with four assists.

LMU's troubles came from controlling the ball and grabbing rebounds. The Lions committed a season-high 22 turnovers, which led to 28 points for the Broncos. LMU also allowed Santa Clara to grab 18 offensive rebounds for 21 second chance points.

The Lions did hit a season-best 27 free throws on 35 attempts but contrasted that with a season-low four made threes.

LMU hits the road on Wednesday to face San Francisco on the road. The Lions and Dons played that double-overtime thriller at the start of January in which LMU won on its home court.
