Lions Display Grit in Season Finale

LOS ANGELES—The Lions capped off their 2025 outdoor track season at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday, May 3, at Jack Kemp Stadium.

The meet served as both a season finale and a showcase of the growth and consistency LMU athletes displayed throughout the spring. "I am so proud of the season we put together," said Head Coach Chloe Curtis. "The entire squad took a big step forward this year, and to see everyone completely empty the tank in their last race of the season was a great way to end the year."

Racing the 800 meters,
Katie Power (Mystic, Conn.) opened the day for LMU on a high note, executing what Curtis called a "smart, tactical race" to come away with a new personal record of 2:23.56. "It was great to see her make a bold move heading into the bell lap, and kick hard down the home stretch," said Curtis. Power placed second in her heat and trimmed nearly a full second off her previous best to close out her breakthrough season.

In the 1500 meters,
Rylee Guinn (Brentwood, Calif.) placed third in her heat and came just fractions of a second shy of her PR, running 4:39.87. Tessa Kline (Springfield, Mass.) followed with a 4:51.95, finishing just over a second off her personal best and fifth in her heat. "Our 1500 crew has been incredibly consistent and competitive this season, always sticking their noses in each race and fighting to the finish," said Curtis.

The 5000 meters saw
Hayden Washington (Valencia, Calif.) notch a season-best 17:28.94, cutting seven seconds from her previous 2025 mark. "This was Hayden's best race of the season," said Curtis. "She went for it and left every ounce of effort on the track."

Closing out the night—and her collegiate career—was senior
Trinity Tingey (Danville, Calif.), who, running unattached, erased 20 seconds off her personal best to finish in 18:32.25. "Wow," Curtis said. "Trinity ran such a smart race and finally got the big PR she's been working for all season." Recapping the race, Curtis highlighted Tingey's patience through the first mile and noted how she "was really able to turn the screws in the second half" to finish strong. "I am so proud of her fight and stoked to end the meet and her last race with a bang" said Curtis.

The Occidental Invitational marked the end of the season for LMU's distance squad, one defined by growth, consistency, and a string of lifetime bests race after race.
