Box Score LOS ANGELES – The LMU baseball team fell to Pacific 6-2 on Friday night in the opener of their weekend series at Page Stadium.
The Lions could not get into a rhythm despite taking a lead in the first inning.
The Tigers used a plethora of singles, only recording one extra base hit in order to score their runs.
The Lions defense committed four errors that led to heightened pressure situations and ultimately led to a portion of the Tiger runs.
Pitching coach Mathew Troupe did have some positives in the game despite the scoreline, heaping praise on how far the bullpen has come. He shouted out Tanner Warady and
Jacob Hughes for throwing up a pair of zeroes late to give the Lions a chance.
Warady gave up a pair of singles to open his inning of work but impressed by locking up three straight batters looking.
Hughes came in and notched a pair of strikeouts before the highlight of the night for the Lions. The ball was driven into the right-center field gap and was destined for extra bases when Nate Savoie made a full extension dive to make the out. The freshman got a great jump and was running to his right and back towards the fence, leapt and held up his glove in triumph as he completed the catch.
The Lions and Tigers are back in action on Saturday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m. (PT) for the second game of the series.
