LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball outscores Pacific by 13 in the second half to erase a halftime deficit and earn their first West Coast Conference win in opening week of league play. The Lions were lifted by 55 combined points from Myron "MJ" Amey, Jr.,
Jan Vide, and
Jalen Shelley to win 80-71.
The Lions started 2-for-2 from the field with a paint basket by Myron "MJ" Amey, Jr. and a three pointer by
Jalen Shelley. Pacific answered on a 9-0 run after LMU missed their next five. Shelley ended the run with his second three of the half, as part of his 17 total points.
Jael Martin beat the buzzer just before halftime to bring the Lions within four at the break. LMU made their final five field goals of the first half to make it a 41-37 game at intermission.
The Lions went on an 11-3 run to start the second half as Amey hit the opening three,
Jan Vide converted an and-1, and
Rokas Jocius buried a three of his own to make it a 48-44 LMU lead with 17:36 to play.
Pacific answered with an 11-1 run of their own to retake a six-point lead.
AJ Thomas scored 13 points in a 24-7 run over a 10-minute span to push LMU on top by double digits, 73-62, with 2:12 to play.
Amey closed the game with four free throws to bring his total to a game-high 20 points. Amey went 7-for-7 from the line.
Vide scored 18 points and recorded a team-high five assists, all without a turnover, in LMU's successful comeback bid.
Amey and Shelley shared team-high marks with six rebounds apiece.
The game featured five ties and six lead changes.
With the win, LMU moves to 1-1 in the WCC. The Lions will get two more opportunities for conference wins this week as they travel to the northwest to face Washington State on Friday and Gonzaga on Saturday.
