LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball closed out non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon with an 83-56 victory. The Lions held Morgan State to 29 percent (19-for-65) shooting to win by 27, 83-56, in the last game before West Coast Conference play begins.
 
LMU never trailed for the second consecutive game as well, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after Rodney Brown Jr. opened with a three and Myron "MJ" Amey, Jr. followed with a jumper. Brown started the game 4-for-4 from three.
 
The Lions turned a 6-point game into 20 with a 14-0 down the stretch of the first half. Aaron McBride started the run with a layup, Nakyel Shelton added a corner three after picking up a steal on the defensive end, Jalen Shelley converted an and-1, and Rokas Jocius pushed the lead to 36-16 with a layup with 2:25 to play before the half. LMU took a 40-21 lead into the half.
 
Brown hit his fifth three to push the lead to 24 points with 12:50 to play in the game. Brown finished with a game-high 23 points.
 
Jael Martin bookended a 7-0 run with a dunk and layup to increase the lead to 68-39 with just over nine minutes to play in regulation. Shelton hit a three in the middle of that run. All 10 scholarship players scored for LMU until the Lions emptied the bench with the three walk-ons over the last four minutes.
 
Shelley finished the game 5-for-7 from the field and was 3-for-3 after intermission to finish with 14 points.
 
Three players grabbed six rebounds apiece to lead the way including a career-high six in 17 minutes from Martin. Shelley and McBride also grabbed six apiece.
 
The Lions open conference play on Sunday afternoon, hosting Saint Mary's at 4:00 PM.
