LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball started the season off the right way, earning an 83-point victory on opening night. The Lions scored 137 points, the most since 1991, to defeat Lincoln University, 137-54.

Rodney Brown Jr. and
Jan Vide hit back-to-back threes in the first minute of action. LMU never trailed in the game and extended the lead with consecutive runs of 26-0 and 22-0 to push the lead to 50 at the 4:21 mark of the first half. Brown finished with a career-high 15 points and Vide tied his career high with 13 points.

Aaron McBride hit a layup with 30 seconds left in the half to push the Lions to 75 points on his way to a career high 20 points. LMU held Lincoln to 20 percent (6-for-30) from the floor in the opening half, while shooting 71.4 percent (30-for-42) themselves.

The lead grew in the second half as
Nakyel Shelton scored the first six points of a 9-0 run to bring the score to 97-33. Shelton scored 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting.

Another 9-0 run, this time capped off by an
AJ Thomas three-point conversion pushed the lead to 125-46 with 3:50 remaining. The freshman scored 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting.

Josh Dalton recorded a double-double in his first career game, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with 10 points.

Myron Amey, Jr. scored 15, while
Jalen Shelley and
Jael Martin scored nine apiece.Â

In the closing minutes of regulation,
George Tupy hit a layup and freshman
Cooper Smith hit a pair of free throws to ensure that all 13 Lions to see the court scored.

LMU finished the game shooting 70.3 percent from the field (52-for-74) and held the Oaklanders under 30 percent at 18-for-61 shooting. The Lions scored 78 points in the paint and hit nine threes.

The season continues on Wednesday back at home as Eastern Washington comes to Gersten Pavilion. The game will follow the women's season opener and tip off at 7:30 PM.
