LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball erupted in the final 10 minutes of the game to flip a seven-point deficit into an eight-point win. The Lions are now 2-0 for the first time under Head Coach
Stan Johnson after the 70-62 win over Eastern Washington.
Myron Amey, Jr. scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half, including three massive threes over the final 5:08 to tie the game, take the lead, and extend the lead. Amey's 22 points are the most he's had since joining the Lions.
Both recording double-doubles for the first time in their careers,
Aaron McBride and
Jalen Shelley combined for 23 of LMU's 36 rebounds. McBride followed up his strong opening night with 10 points and 11 rebounds including a pair of key second half threes. Shelley grabbed a dozen boards and hit double figures without hitting a field goal. The sophomore transfer shot 10-for-13 from the free throw line to account for all of his scoring.
The game featured eight ties and eight lead changes, with each team leading by at least seven at different points of the game.
Josh Dalton hit a go-ahead three at the 3:10 mark of the first half and allowed LMU to carry a three-point at intermission.
Eastern Washington carried a seven-point lead at the 10:44 mark of the second half before
Jan Vide and Myron Amey, Jr. combined for three consecutive fast break layups to spark the comeback. In addition to Amey's game-high with five made threes, fellow team captain Vide scored 11 with a game-high seven assists.
The game ended on a 13-3 run.
Rodney Brown scored five of his eight points in that 9-0 stretch including a highlight breakaway dunk.
LMU benefitted from 16 second chance points, compared to only allowing three for the Eagles. Four of McBride's rebounds came on the offensive glass.
