SEATTLE – LMU showed tremendous resolve, erasing a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Seattle University on Friday night at Championship Field.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Lions refused to fold and mounted an impressive second-half comeback behind goals from
Jaxson Hutcheon and
Elie Bokota.
Hutcheon cut the deficit in half in the 53rd minute, finishing off a corner kick with an assist from
Nacho Macias to make it 2-1 and inject life into the Lions' comeback bid.
Just four minutes later, LMU found the equalizer in dramatic fashion. Seattle got overly ambitious with a goal kick, and Hutcheon disrupted the build-up play. The loose ball found
Anthony Boyadjian, who redirected it to Bokota for a simple tap-in finish at 57:17. The goal capped a stunning four-minute span that saw the Lions completely erase their two-goal hole.
Seattle had jumped out to the early advantage on Patrick Kearney's goal in the 13th minute, assisted by Alex Notzka and Yuta Toya. The Redhawks doubled their lead before halftime when Tai Iida scored unassisted in the 37th minute.
But the second half belonged entirely to LMU. Goalkeeper
Philip Hovers was crucial in preserving the comeback, making three saves in the final 45 minutes to keep Seattle off the board.
