Lions Erase 14 Point Deficit, Move to 6-0 With OT Road Win

.SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Despite being down 14 points with less than 13 minutes remaining in regulation, LMU men's basketball completed the job to remain undefeated and move to 6-0 for just the third time in school history. The Lions are the first team in the nation to six wins with the 68-64 overtime victory Monday night in The Thunderdome.

Myron Amey Jr. took the game over in the second half, scoring 19 points in the second period and three more in overtime to push the Lions over the hump. Amey scored 29 of LMU's 33 bench points and went 6-for-7 from three.

The comeback started one an 11-0 run that started with a Jalen Shelley three-pointer with 12:21 on the clock. Over the next five minutes, Amey hit a three and a bucket, and Shelley capped the run with another key three. After UCSB got one back with a layup on the other end, Shelley completed a three-point play powering in a dunk and converting at the line to put the Lions up a pair. Shelley scored a career-high 24 points on eight field goals with six rebounds.

The Gauchos went up seven with 4:39 on the clock before LMU used a 13-0 run over the next 2:52 to flip the score to a 66-60 lead. AJ Thomas started with a layup before Amey scored the next 11, with three of those baskets coming from long range.

UC Santa Barbara forced overtime after erasing the six-point deficit over the final minute. Rodney Brown Jr. hit four free throws over the final 12 seconds to secure the game.

With the win, LMU joins the 1952-53 (7-0) Lions and the 2018-19 (8-0) team with the only 6-0 or better starts in program history.

This is the only game of the week for the Lions. The team will start next week in Florida for the Sunshine Slam. Both Sunshine Slam games will broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
