LOS ANGELES – Max Senesac notched his first career hit with an RBI double,
Diego Baqueiro smacked an RBI double and
Brendan Bobo homered for the fifth time this season in LMU's 9-2 victory over Arizona on Monday night in Page Stadium.
The Wildcats struck first, but the Lions answered immediately with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second.
Bobo tied the game up with an opposite field blast. He drove the ball just to the right of the blue monster for the second time this season and his fifth homer overall. Daalen Adderley followed up by reaching on a hit by pitch and Benny Casillas had an infield single to put runners on first and second. Senesac followed with a well-struck ball over the left fielder's outstretched glove to score both runs. It was his first collegiate hit in his first collegiate at bat.
After the Wildcats scored another to pull within one run, the Lions put up another three runs in the fifth.
Christian Dicochea grounded a leadoff single through the right side and advanced to second when Sam Biller was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a Bobo groundout. Baqueiro lined a double into the left-center field gap to score both and celebrated with an emphatic kick at second base. He would come around to score when Adderley's ground ball to shortstop was airmailed to first.
Senesac reached on a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a Dicochea groundout. JD Dunn lined a double down the left field line for his fifth RBI in only his third game. Dunn stole third before Biller was hit for the third time of the night. Biller advanced to second on fielder's indifference before Bobo floated a single into left field to score both runners.
The Lions went with a staff day on the mound with Ryan Baker getting the start. He went a pair of innings, allowing only the one unearned run while striking out three. He picked up the win.
Austin Schroeder pitched a perfect third before handing off to Cole Chimenti. Chimenti allowed an unearned run before passing the baton to Cole Stucky. Stucky escaped a bases loaded jam before
Jacob Hughes took over. Hughes handed the ball off to
Seamus Barrett whose velocity was a tick up tonight. The senior was sitting at 96 in his first inning of work and touched 97 while striking out four straight batters in two perfect innings of work.
Lions pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run.
