LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's soccer team has released the schedule for the 2023 season, headlined by early season trips to Virginia and Michigan and with the home opener on August 19 against UC Irvine.
The Lions have a pair of exhibitions scheduled against Hope International at home on Aug. 11 and at UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 13.
The Lions host the Anteaters in the regular season opener on Aug. 19. The Lions got a dramatic 1-0 win in Irvine, Calif. in the 2022 season.
Christian Ortiz recorded the assist to Maro Byers-Mora on the eventual game-winner.
The Lions hit the road for three straight matches including a pair against Power Five opponents in Virginia and Michigan. The Cavaliers were ranked as high as eleventh in 2022 and were an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. LMU finishes the road trip with an easy drive east to California Baptist on September 2.
The Lions follow up with three straight home matches. UC Davis visits on Sept. 6, Sacramento State on Sept. 10 and Seattle on Sept. 14. LMU won two out of three last season, defeating the Aggies 1-0 and the Redhawks 2-1.
LMU travels to CSUN on Sept. 17 and then hosts Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 21 in a pair of matchups against Big West competition. The Lions defeated the Titans at Sullivan Field in 2022 on a
Leo Zulli volley in the closing minutes.
The Lions travel to Oregon State on Sept. 24 in the final game before West Coast Conference play begins.
The Lions open up WCC play on Sept. 30 at Gonzaga. LMU defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 on senior night in 2022.
As the calendar turns to October, the Lions head to Stockton, Calif. to face Pacific on Oct. 7.
The Lions take a break from conference play to face UCLA on Oct. 14 before coming back to Sullivan Field to face Santa Clara on Oct. 21.
The Lions finish out conference play with road games against San Diego on Oct. 25 and San Francisco on November 4, with home matches against Portland on Oct. 28 and the final match of the season against Saint Mary's on Nov. 11.
Season tickets will go on sale at a later date.
