LOS ANGELES – On Nov. 19, along with the 20th Anniversary Celebration for the 2003-2004 LMU women's basketball team, the Lions will also observe their annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Game. Since 2017, the team has been dedicated to raising awareness about this rare cancer in memory of Lisa Velasco, the mother of Bianca and Andee Velasco. This year, LMU women's basketball is collaborating with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to further educate and provide resources on this type of cancer.
 
"We are forever grateful that LMU women's basketball continues to honor our mom's legacy by hosting the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness game," says Andee. "Lisa was our rock through everything, and she always went out of her way to make sure we had the best experiences not only in our lives but in our basketball careers as well."
 
Pancreatic Cancer accounts for 7% of cancer-related fatalities in the United States. Unfortunately, a significant number of patients only discover they have pancreatic cancer when it's already in advanced stages. PanCAN's mission is to boldly take action to enhance the well-being of all those affected by pancreatic cancer.
 
"Thank you to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for helping bring awareness to this aggressive cancer, so that more lives can be saved," says Bianca. "Having the opportunity to educate those around us and providing helpful resources means the world to both of us. We believe it is of the utmost importance to surround those affected by the cancer with unconditional love and support."
