Baldineti Named Program's First WCC Player of the Week

WCC ANNOUNCEMENT

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named Tommaso Baldineti the Men's Water Polo Player of the Week on Tuesday, the first for the program in the league's first season sponsoring the sport.

Tommaso Baldineti had a career week for LMU leading the Lions in goals, assists, points, and steals, while tying for the team lead in drawn exclusions and field blocks. More importantly, Baldineti helped lead the Lions to a true road win at #11 UC San Diego, an opening tournament win over #16 California Baptist, and put an end to LMU's 16-game losing streak to #7 Long Beach State that dated back to 2012. The win over LBSU is LMU's second top-10 win of the year and highest-ranked win since being #6 UCSB in 2009.

In LMU's first road game of the year, Baldineti scored a game-high five goals to lift the Lions in front of nearly 1,500 Tritons fans to help the Lions top UCSD in their own pool for the second consecutive year. He followed that performance with five more goals and a career-high four assists for nine total points to give LMU the win in the opening game of the inaugural WCC-Big West Clash. Baldineti was key in LMU's upset over Long Beach State. Scoring four more goals and adding three assists for seven points. In the tournament's closing game, Baldineti's offense gave the Lions four more goals and two additional assists for five points.

His total for the week included 19 goals, 11 assists, 29 points, nine drawn exclusions, six steals, and two field blocks.

LMU will continue tournament play with the Lancer Joust in Riverside, Calif., on Friday and Saturday.
