WCC Release
The West Coast Conference has named Cam Shelton WCC Player of the Week on Monday following his play on Thursday night in LMU's win over No. 6 Gonzaga Thursday night in Spokane.
Coming off his career-high 28 points that Shelton set in his last game out, LMU's senior scored 27 points to end the 25-game losing streak to the Zags (since 2010). Shelton tied his career-high with 11 made field goals on 23 attempts (47.8 percent), including hitting the go-ahead game-winning shot in the final minute of play. The starting point guard grabbed nine rebounds, one off his career-high after playing 39.0 of 40 minutes. The Lions had not won in Spokane in 32 years (since 1991) and nobody had beaten the Zags at the Kennel in 75 games. Shelton now ranks second in the West Coast Conference in scoring (18.9 ppg), third in assists (4.5 apg), third in steals (2.0 spg), 15th in rebounds (6.0 rpg), and second in minutes (35.3 ppg). All numbers are significant jumps from his first season with the team last year.
Shelton is LMU's first WCC Player of the Week this season, and first for the program since Eli Scott earned the recognition during conference play in February of last season. Chance Stephens received praise from the league earlier this season as the WCC Freshman of the Week following his play in Jamaica to help LMU win the Jamaica Classic.
The Lions return home for two games in Gersten Pavilion this week. LMU hosts Portland Thursday night at 7:00 PM, then the play Pepperdine on Saturday night at 8:00 PM for the first leg of the PCH Cup.
